The City of St. Cloud is the 10th largest city in Minnesota. It is centrally located in the heart of the Midwest along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. The City’s Nutrient, Energy & Water (NEW) Recovery facility is located in southern St. Cloud. The center services a population of about 120,000, including the City of St. Cloud and several area cities such as St. Augusta, St. Joseph, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and Waite Park.
In July 2017, the City embarked on an ambitious initiative, known as the Nutrient Recovery and Reuse (NR2) Project, to further advance its efforts in resource recovery.
Lystek THP was commissioned in September 2018. St. Cloud has continued to operate their successful liquid land application program with the new high-solids LysteGro liquid product, using their existing infrastructure and equipment. Implementing Lystek THP led to significant program savings with over 70% reduction in their biosolids volumes and substantially reduced their associated trucking and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the program itself has become less stressful to manage – the City saw decreases of 85% in their overtime hours associated with land application.
