Anaerobically digested municipal biosolids
Valley Sanitary District (VSD) and Lystek have executed an agreement to perform design services for a new advanced biosolids treatment project. This project will incorporate Lystek's innovative THP® technology, LysteMize® digestion, and LysteGro® fertilizer production, transforming biosolids into a valuable and renewable resource.
VSD, a California Special District located in Indio (Riverside County), serves a growing population and is committed to sustainable waste management practices. To comply with California's stringent regulations regarding organics diversion and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction, VSD sought a complete resource recovery solution for managing its biosolids.
Following a thorough evaluation and the successful completion of a feasibility study in the fall of 2023, VSD selected Lystek as its preferred solution provider. This design agreement marks a crucial step toward implementing an on-site solution for the cost-effective treatment, beneficial use, and sustainable management of the District's biosolids.
Lystek's THP technology significantly improves the digestibility of organic solids through the LysteMize process, enhancing biogas production for potential use in co-generation systems. This innovative approach will reduce the District's reliance on fossil fuels for energy generation and total GHG emissions.
This project includes design for a new solids handling building, integrating the existing dewatering operations to Lystek THP, as well as LysteMize Digestion and LysteGro fertilizer loading.
